Mississippi Sound Welcome Center
April 4 – May 4, 2016
With attention to detail, Alabama-based modern ceramics artists Lynnette Hesser and Steve Loucks simultaneously utilize wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. An exhibition of select works on display (April 4 – May 4) compliments a weekend-long workshop (held April 16 & 17) during which the artists will discuss glazing methods, aesthetics and philosophies on art, design and clay. Students will get a chance to see how these accomplished artists alter, assemble and embellish clay pieces using the wheel and modern techniques including undulating, stretching and manipulating clay slabs. Loucks and Hesser will showcase the use of simple wooden and plaster press molds, how to carve designs and create roll and pull handles, dart and add sprigs in the workshop. These elements can be seen in completed form in their beautiful work on display in the museum’s sun-lit welcome center during the month-long exhibition.
