SUMMARY:Summer Camp Week 3 (Ages 8-12)
DESCRIPTION:Summer Camp Week 3 at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art celebrates Music\, Community & Large-Scale Art\, focusing on the power of creativity to bring people together. This week highlights community\, rhythm\, and shared storytelling inspired by the cultural traditions of the Biloxi and other Southeastern tribes. \nCamp begins with Rhythm & Culture\, where students explore the role of drums\, music\, and communal gathering in Southeastern tribal life. After discussing how rhythm connects communities during ceremonies and celebrations\, campers design and decorate their own hand drums using paint and mixed materials—creating instruments that reflect personal and cultural expression. \nMidweek\, students collaborate on a large-scale Community Mural inspired by Biloxi culture. On Part 1\, campers plan imagery and themes together\, emphasizing symbols\, river life\, animals\, and shared values. Part 2 brings the mural to life with vibrant tempera paint\, reinforcing teamwork and collective creativity. \nOn Thursday\, students create Stacked Symbol Sculptures—totem-inspired storytelling pieces. While Southeastern tribes did not traditionally use Northwest-style totems\, campers explore the idea of stacked symbolic forms to represent layered stories\, values\, and identity. \nThe week concludes with a joyful Celebration Day & Art Show\, where families are invited to view the mural and student projects. Campers share reflections in a closing circle\, honoring creativity\, collaboration\, and community. \nPLEASE PROVIDE A PACKED LUNCH \nAGES 8-12\nDATES 07/06 – 07/10 \nDownload Camp Application
