Hee Joo Yang

Yang is a ceramicist from Seoul, Korea and served as OOMA’s inaugural artist-in-residence at our City of Biloxi Center of Ceramics during July 2021. Hee Joo Yang creates ceramic sculpture, video, sound, and installations that explore a sense of time, space, and emotional expression. During her residency at  OOMA this past summer, Yang created a site-specific version of her Cave pieces. This large-scale suspended ceramic work emits sound. Yang is partially deaf, she records everyday sounds and manipulates them using her non-deaf ear until they illustrate the way she experiences sound through her deaf ear.
