Come to our beautiful studio and enjoy the excitement of an ancient & traditional method of firing pottery. Saggar firing has ancient roots and was historically used in various cultures to achieve specific aesthetic effects.
Preparation for the aluminum foil sagger method is fun & simple. Work fired this way has a colorful, mottled surface of reds, pinks and browns. We will supply 2 bisqued pots and everything you need but please feel free to bring anything organic you want to experiment with like flowers, insects, snake skins, tea leaves.
This technique is valued for its ability to produce striking and often unpredictable results, adding a layer of uniqueness to each piece. It’s a great method for artists who want to experiment with different textures and finishes in their work.
Students must wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you aren’t afraid to get dirty! Cost of class includes two pots (your choice of bisqued vases and bowls) *Students may not bring outside pieces to fire.*
