From Stono to Now: The Fire This Time

AA Gallery

Exhibition Statement:
The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is pleased to continue our partnership with Black Art in America Foundation for From Stono to Now: The Fire This Time. This powerful exhibition traces the enduring legacy of resistance, creativity, and cultural expression across generations through works by both historically important and contemporary artists. Rooted in an ongoing commitment to education, and community engagement, this collaboration amplifies the voices and visions of African American artists whose work chronicles the continuity between both historical memory and contemporary experience.

Guided by BAIA’s mission to champion the African American visual art community. The exhibition explores the continuum of Black artistic production—from the resilience exemplified by the Stono Rebellion through the Civil Rights Struggle to contemporary issues. Together, these institutions continue the need for dialogue, reflection, and celebration, underscoring the vital role of art in shaping an inclusive cultural narrative for our times.

Exhibition Dates: March 19, 2026 through July 11, 2026
