During this 2-day, hands-on, intensive workshop with Eck McCanless, participants will learn how to make Agateware on the wheel and carve it to reveal patterns similar to wood grain or peacock feathers. On the first day, learn how to put different clays together and throw multiple clays on the wheel at the same time. The second day is spent carving. We will use Eck’s clear glaze recipe and fire your pieces which will be ready for pick-up in approximate 2-3 weeks after the workshop.

I will go over all the tips and tricks I have learned from being a professional potter for the past 30 years with a sole focus on Agateware for the past 13. Participants should bring the carving tools they prefer. I recommend the Kemper pitcher handle making tool, the Kemper PT430 Loop Tool and the Kemper flexible metal rib. Day 1 will be spent learning how to put different colors of clay together and turning them on the wheel. I will demonstrate smaller pieces, larger multi-section pieces, boxes, ring jugs, and making and attaching handles made with multiple colors of clay. Participants will work on the wheel during this -me. I will offer help and encouragement as needed. Day 2 will be spent going over carving techniques.
