George Ohr in the Star Gallery
OOMA’s Curator Douglas Myatt gives a tour of the Star Gallery, where the bulk of our collection of George Ohr pottery is on view.
Artist and potter Bethany Pittman lives and works in Wiggins, Mississippi. Soon after her move to South Mississippi in 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. She built Rain Crow Pottery out of salvaged timber from the storm. Originally a native of Jackson, she was first introduced to clay as a student in the Jackson Public School’s Academic and Performing Arts Complex program.
After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in three-dimensional design in sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi, Bethany worked under Jim Anderson at Shearwater Pottery. Bethany has also worked as a stained-glass artist at Pearl River Glass Studio and as a certified high school teacher. She became a member of the Mississippi Craftsman’s Guild in 2007.
