Job Description
Campus Security/Facilities Assistant maintains and oversees a company’s grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure that a workspace is safe and functional. This security role works operationally with facilities maintenance, in upkeep of the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art physical plant. The duties include inspecting facilities to meet safety regulations. This role also oversees the daily security operations of the museum, including monitoring fire safety and security systems. This role is responsible for maintaining and beautification of grounds, performing routine and preventative building maintenance tasks.
This role is also responsible for keeping equipment liabilities in compliance with the rules and laws and regulations that pertain to its particular industry, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, Federal/State and local insurance regulatory agencies. Equipment such as:

  • Keys and key holders – log maintenance monitoring and services
  • Security CCTV cameras and equipment monitoring and services
  • Burglar/Fire Alarm monitoring and services
  • Fire Panel/Equipment monitoring and services
  • HVAC Chiller monitoring and services
  • Generator equipment monitoring and services
  • Elevator equipment monitoring and services

Primary Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing museum during normal business hours.
  • Monitors CCTV daily, reviewing previous 24 hour-day for suspicious activities, and record keeping at the discretion of the Operations Manager or Executive Director.
  • Performs regular and preventative building maintenance, grounds maintenance, walkway maintenance, and museum beautification.
  • Repair and maintenance of minor mechanical, electrical, climate control, lighting, plumbing, security and automated controls systems issues.
  • Maintains an inventory of facilities supplies, equipment and materials.
  • Oversees museum security including building contents and works directly with security consultants and contractors.
  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair.
  • Develops, reviews, and submits all equipment and systems security and maintenance proposed contracts to Operations Manager.
  • Coordinates the approved contracted services to ensure the proper operation of all building systems and oversees repairs of all as needed.
  • Obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts and orders parts as needed.
  • Works with Operations Manager to ensure facilities set up requirements meet events and program needs.
  • Works with Operations Manager to ensure the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum campus complies with Biloxi ordinances for private and public events Weddings, festivals and receptions.
    • Health codes/ Food permits/ Vendors
    • Signs/ Banners (display permits)
    • Zoning, Land Use
    • Security/ Fire personnel of all events on campus
  • Be available for and respond to after-hours maintenance and security emergencies as deemed necessary by the Operations Manager or Executive Director.
  • In conjunction with the Curator, Executive Director, and Operations Manager to assists with the emergency preparedness plan and participates in its annual review.
  • Emergency preparedness and planning:
    • Police Department – active role in the event of a bomb threat, terrorist attack, trespassing incident, or burglary.
    • Fire Department – active role in the event of a fire and ensuring fire extinguishers are up to date and equipment have been inspected in a timely manner in compliance with federal, state, and local ordinances.
    • Power Outages – active role with MS Power services in the event of a line or transformer down
    • Fire Panel – resetting
    • HVAC Chiller – resetting
    • Generator – resetting
    • Elevator- resetting and moving to the 2nd floor in the event of a hurricane
    • Hurricane evacuation – active role in coordination with Operations Manager and Executive Director per the current evacuation plan.
  • Ensures the Museum is in compliance with OSHA standards, identifies hazards and reports outcomes in a timely manner to the Operations Manager.
  • Performs custodial duties as needed.
  • Supports Galleries as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as may be assigned by Operations Manager or Executive Director.

Education/Qualifications
Five years experience; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. The Campus Security Officer/Facilities Assistant position requires high school diploma or G.E.D.
